Description

The TiWi-uB1 Bluetooth® Smart module is a low-power 2.4 GHz Bluetooth® 4.0 (BLE) System-on-Chip in a cost effective, pre-certified footprint. This module comes loaded standard with firmware for network processor support. Alternatively applications can be developed and loaded into the integrated microcontroller, and function without the need for an external processor.

The Bluetooth® Smart TiWi-uB1 module with System-on-Chip (SoC) does not come flashed with any firmware. The user is required to flash the desired application into the module. A hex file for the HostTestApp (v1.3.2) with FREQTUNE set to 0x07 is available for download.

Any firmware that runs on the TiWi-uB1 module should set the FREQTUNE register to a value of 0x07. This ensures the module will be on frequency during Bluetooth® operation.

FAQs

  1. Do I need to use a 32,768 Hz crystal with the TiWi-uB1 module?

    A 32 kHz crystal is required in applications that use power savings, to maintain the connection timing required by BLE. If your application is line powered and does not use power savings, the timing is maintained by the 32 MHz crystal, and hence no 32 kHz crystal is required.

  2. Is the TiWi-uB1 module a single mode or dual mode device?

    The TiWi-uB1 is a single mode Bluetooth® Smart module, that supports Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) only.

  3. Can I develop my application directly on the TiWi-uB1 module?

    The TiWi-uB1 module is a System-On-Chip (SOC), that has an integrated microcontroller that can be used for application development.

  4. Can I use the TiWi-uB1 module in Network Processor mode?

    The TiWi-uB1 module can be used in conjunction with an external host processor or microcontroller, using the HCI command protocol over a UART or SPI interface.

  5. Which antennas are certified with the TiWi-uB1 module?

    The TiWi-uB1 module is certified with an on module PCB trace antenna. Additionally the module is also certified with the LSR 2.4 GHz Dipole and 2.4 GHz Waterproof Dipole antennas, used in conjunction with any of our U.FL to Reverse Polarity SMA cables. Note that the correct model of module needs to be ordered based on the antenna option being used (PCB Trace: 450-0103, Off Module: 450-0106). Consult the Antenna Design Guide for details on implementing the TiWi-uB1 module into your design with one of the above certified antenna options.
